“It has been a lifelong dream to open a dedicated Yoga Centre here in Sheffield.
I and all the teachers welcome you and hope we can share with you some of our passion for the ancient practice of Yoga.” – Frances Homewood, Sheffield Yoga Centre Director
Sheffield Yoga Centre opened in September 2005 in a former Chapel on a quiet Walkley street, Burgoyne Road.
It contains 2 lovely studios, a cosy meeting/ changing room, kitchen and library. All yoga equipment such as mats and blankets is provided – so there’s nothing for you to bring except an open mind!
The Centre is devoted to the teaching of Iyengar yoga and has a full range of classes, catering for those at Introductory level through to more experienced, intermediate students. There are special classes for women only, older people, therapy cases and a Teacher Training programme. There are workshops on the first Saturday of every month and a range of other weekend workshops (Please check our Events page for details). The Centre provides a warm and welcoming environment for people of any age and background to experience the benefits of yoga.
The centre seeks to maintain the high standards established by the world renowned Yogacharya BKS Iyengar, whose system we follow. All teachers at the centre hold the certification mark, authorising them to teach the Iyengar methods of yoga and which
demonstrates the extensive training they have completed.
The centre Director is Frances Homewood, an Iyengar Yoga teacher of 25 years experience, who has studied in Pune, India with the Iyengar family regularly over the last 15 years.
Sheffield Yoga Centre is part of the Sheffield and District Iyengar Yoga Association (SADIYA), a network of Iyengar yoga teachers in the area. Visit SADIYA’s website for details of other classes and events in the Sheffield area. For details of classes at Sheffield Yoga Centre, click here
